Introduction to Peer Review

What is Peer Review?

Peer review is the system used to assess the quality of a manuscript before it is published. Independent researchers in the relevant research area assess submitted manuscripts for originality, validity, and significance to help editors determine whether a manuscript should be published in their journal.

How Does It Work?

When a manuscript is submitted to a journal, it is assessed to see if it meets the criteria for submission. If it does, the editorial team will select potential peer reviewers within the field of research to peer-review the manuscript and make recommendations.

At the V3 Journal of Management (VJM), we follow a double-blind peer review process to ensure the highest quality and integrity of published research. This approach maintains fairness and objectivity by keeping the identities of both authors and reviewers anonymous throughout the review process.

Key Features of the Double-Blind Peer Review Process

Anonymity of Authors and Reviewers

  • The authors do not know the identities of the reviewers.
  • The reviewers do not know the identities of the authors.
  • This eliminates bias related to affiliations, reputation, or prior work.

Initial Editorial Screening

  • Submitted manuscripts are first assessed by the editorial team for originality, scope, formatting, and compliance with submission guidelines.
  • Papers that do not meet basic criteria are returned to authors for revision before peer review.

Assignment to Expert Reviewers

  • Manuscripts passing the initial screening are assigned to two or more independent reviewers with expertise in the relevant subject area.
  • Reviewers evaluate the manuscript’s quality, methodology, significance, clarity, and ethical compliance.

Review Feedback and Decision

  • Reviewers provide constructive feedback and recommend one of the following:
    • Accept with minor revisions
    • Revise and resubmit (major revisions required)
    • Reject (not suitable for publication)
  • The editorial team carefully considers reviewer comments before making a final decision.

Revision and Final Decision

  • If revisions are required, authors must address reviewer comments and submit a revised version.
  • The revised manuscript may undergo another round of review before acceptance.
  • Once accepted, the manuscript moves to the editing and publication stage.

Why Double-Blind Peer Review?

  • Ensures impartial evaluation of manuscripts.
  • Reduces biases based on nationality, gender, institution, or reputation.
  • Improves research quality by allowing objective critique and feedback.
  • Enhances credibility and reliability of published articles.
